When I started the NextPath content journey, I knew that video would be an important nut to crack. Having conducted over 600 hours of 1:1 coaching calls, and hundreds of hours of group sessions for 10-50 participants, I know that there’s no replacement for visual learning.
My first approach was on TikTok, and while I enjoyed connecting with the communities there, I burned out pretty quickly. It was clear that I needed to step back and rethink how I was going to spread my message of empowerment to tech employees. The next step was NextPath Mag, and 3 months in of weekly posts, I think I’m starting to get the hang of it.
In parallel, I’ve been developing a new channel: NextPath YouTube! After countless inquiries from clients for resources on how to improve technical interviewing skills, I’ve always been disappointed with the offerings. There are some great channels out there (Shout out Exponent and Neetcode!) But I haven’t found anything like what I’ve experienced in my 1:1 mock interviews. For the past two years, I’ve been hosting live mock interviews for a community of women and genderqueer engineers where there are typically 30-50 people observing. The person sitting in the hot seat gets a mock interview with hands on coaching, and the observers can see how others approach interviewing and can use the chat to ask questions. The response has been amazing and I knew that this format could be super valuable for a wider audience.
Today, I’ve launched my first video: a 1 hour mock System Design interview and coaching session with a Sr. Software Engineer. I invite you to work on your own design while watching along, and use the comments to ask questions and show off your own approach. If you have any feedback please don’t hesitate to provide that as well! I’m looking forward to continuing to build a community of people who work together to grow, because if there is one thing I know, it’s that people are better when we lean on each other.
Oh and don’t forget to…
